In October of 2025 my friends and I installed my brand new impact screen in my brand new golf simulator.

Enclosure Pre-Screen Install – Painted wall behind Black

After months and months of hard work turning one bay in my three bay shop into a golf simulator we were finally at the home stretch.

Drilling the Anchors for the wire and pulley system to install the screen. Buddies getting it done. The wire is what you hang the screen from.

All we have to do is hang the impact screen, put in the built in enclosure, hang the projector and finally hang the launch monitor. All the work up to this point is done and now it’s time to finish the job.

I went with the Gray version of the premium impact screen from Carls place.

The fellas getting er done. Ceiling Cleats are being installed while the game is on the bigscreen. We hang the padding on to the french cleats.

The gray color is new. It’s designed to excel in environments that have some ambient light. My sim is set up where I have a few different lighting options and can see my screen well enough even with the lights fully on.

I used the original version of this screen for my first golf sim build and I loved the screen and used it for 5+ years. You can see multiple reviews going back to 2020. It was a great screen and it made me not hesitate to use Carl’s again for my next build at my new house.

This is my initial review of the Carl’s Premium Impact Screen – Gray Edition.

The screen from the hitting zone. Full lights on and no projector. Just hung.
The view from the hitting zone, Full lights off, ready to play. Not a bad drive either.

Review

At the time I am writing this review, I’ve only had the new screen up for a couple of weeks now, I installed the screen in mid October of 2025. I do not have a lot of screen time with this screen, so I’ll go over the specs of the screen, talk about the install and how I feel about everything after using it for a few weeks.

My Screen Specs

  • 107.3″H x 190.8″W viewable, which gives a 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Includes Install Kit
  • I purchased additional wall and ceiling padding panels designed to fit my enclosure.
  • Gray version of the Carls Premium Golf Impact Screen (new in 2025).
  • Purchased optional padding to enclose the edges an ceiling

What Was Important ?

Clean Install – Plays Great and Protects the hard to protect areas in DIY builds. Looks super nice and secure.
Floor to Ceiling well protected and looks great.

This was my second golf sim build and I’ve been in the industry for over five years now reviewing golf sim equipment and gear like this. So I knew that I wanted a screen that met the following:

  • I wanted it to last me a long, long time.
  • I wanted it to look great, especially since I’m upgrading to a new projector (the BenQ AK700ST).
  • I wanted it to perform like it should. Accept the golf shots quietly and drop the ball down softly with no fast bounce back.
  • I wanted my enclosure and screen to look great all the way around this time. My first sim was DIY to the max and used moving blankets on the wall and golf netting on the ceiling. It worked great and I loved her, but it looked like I built it as cheaply as possible, because I pretty much did.
  • I wanted to bottom of the screen to stop any worm burners (so far so good)
  • I wanted it to install easily as I am not the handiest of individuals. I have good buddies who are though so that helps.

Gray Vs Original White Impact Screen

The difference between the image on my new simulator vs my old simulator is night and day.

My Old , original ‘On The Green’ – My old sim
My new sim with the gray impact screen and upgraded projector.

There is a huge difference in the above.

That is not only because of the new gray impact screen. It is mostly because of the new projector. I have an entire new simulator build which includes a beefed up projector, the BenQ AK700ST Golf Simulator projector (upgrading my video card is next on my list).

Lights On – No Problem

The cool thing is that I can see my screen just fine to play with my lights fully turned on in my sim.

If I am in there working and just want to hit a few shots whenever I can just fire on the projector and GSPro and I’m on the range without having to turn the lights on and off or set up anything special. I do like to keep the lights mostly off while we are playing as the image is much brighter. You can see how the football game looks on the screen in this installation photo.

Only picture I have currently of the lights on with the projector projecting.

Carls Place Customer Support

I used the customer support extensively with this build and purchase. I worked with a few different support agents over the course of the order and all of them were helpful and knowledgeable. Communication was all through email and they responded usually the same business day or the following day.

Pre-sale I was supported in getting my specs of the build nailed down, everything properly sized to fit into my built in enclosure.

Post sale I was supported when there was a delay in the order I placed due to my late timing of placing the order. I was initially on the list of people who were going to get the Gray impact screen. I was out of town when it was available to purchase, and by the time I got home and ordered it they had ran out of Gray material.

They reached out and offered to replace it with the original white material that I had used before or I could wait for the Gray. I was busy at the moment anyway as it would be weeks before I could begin the install, so it was fine with me to wait, so I did. A few short weeks later I got the email that the order was on the way.

Future Review Updates

I try to re-review products as I use them to give you a sense of how durable and enjoyable a product is . So I’ll update this initial review with new ones as time rolls on.

Final Thoughts

Myrt’s hard at work as usual. Ruff life.

Choosing your impact screen is one of the more important pieces of the golf simulator puzzle.

I recommend you buy a high quality impact screen.

Carl’s has been great. There are some other quality options as well. You should do your research and look at your budget. The good news is that the price of this screen starts as low as $450 or so. Price increases based on size, features, add-ons and options. The one I put in runs a little over a thousand dollars and another couple thousand for the full enclosure wall pads and panels. Wall protection and paneling is quite the pain in the ass so if you have the budget their built in kit is a great option.

A high quality impact screen makes a repeated difference in your enjoyment of playing sim golf. A specific issue is the noise. Some of the other screens available on the market are reported to be considerably louder. If you look around some user reviews on forums and facebook groups you will see people complaining about how loud it is when the ball hits the screen. With the Carl’s premium screens this is not an issue. If the noise is not an issue in your situation then it would just be an added bonus but not a requirement.

Do I recommend the Carl’s Impact Golf Screen?

Noted Features

Gray - High Contrast Color for Image Brightness
Sound Dampening Material - Quiet
Durable - Long Lasting 5+ years on old one.
Complete Custom Built-in Kit

Pros & Cons

Can see screen with lights on
Shot's hit screen and drop softly (mostly)
Entire built in kit was smooth and easy to install (just took a bit of time)
High wedge shots "rainbow" back and land near feet when hit screen at just the right angle (not dangerous as it is slow coming back)

Yes – if you are looking for a quality screen designed and supported by a company heavily invested into the simulator golf market. They want happy customers who refer their friends and they have always personally treated me fairly, honestly and timely with their support. I’m going on my 6th year of using one of their impact screens in my simulator and I’ve been very satisfied overall in the quality of their impact screens.

If your budget allows it, yes I recommend making the investment. If you are stretching every single dollar and are not as worried about the longevity, sound and image then sure you can find some less expensive options that will catch a ball.

I will be posting some video reviews on my youtube channel so be sure and subscribe there and check those out.
