In my travels across the internet I found a post on the reddit simulator forums talking about the Garmin R50.

The R10

The R50 is the next step up from their wildly popular R10 launch monitor. The R50 is going to be a hybrid radar + camera launch monitor. At least that’s the theory anyway.

People were pretty excited about this possibility because the R10 made such a great hit with the community, they were excited for the next upgraded system.

The Garmin R10 has a MSRP of $599 which is way lower than their competitors – the Mevo+ and the Skytrak which are both around two grand. The R10 is pretty awesome, but it is entry level.

So – what makes me think that we might could expect an R50 in the future?

I came across a reddit post asking for an estimated time of arrival for the R50 – which no one else had seemed to hear of yet. DallasOil3 said he had spoken to a Garmin employee who told him that they were testing the device and talked openly about it. He wanted to know if anyone else had heard when it was going to launch.

Patent Image for the R50

A reddit poster by the name of raptor3x linked to the patent Garmin applied for HERE. This patent shows the camera + radar launch monitor solution.

Garmin is known for using numbers like 10, 50, 80 in their product lines – the higher number to denote the higher end product.

I’m going to reach out to Garmin to find out if they have any comment or any insider info. If I find out them to see if any news of this is true, and if so it is fantastic to see the multitude of indoor golf products hitting the market making it more affordable and enjoyable.

If you want to learn more about the Garmin R10, check out my list of golf launch monitors in 2022 guide I put out a few months back. It’s a great device to break into the world of indoor golf. You can play GSPro, you can join and play in some tours within the SimulatorGolfTour.com and play sim golf.

I’ll be updating my guide in 2023 with the newest additions as they roll out. I hope to add a full review of the Garmin R50 and the Uneekor Eye Mini this year!

  1. Thanks for posting this… I have the R10 is great device for the price point. Garmin seems to always produce products that I find compelling and well priced for the value. Hoping this R50 could potentially slot in between Rapsodo MLM2 and the Skytrack+ and Bushnell for next year and make a good upgrade to me.

  2. Any word from the rep you called at Garmin regarding the R50? I tried calling the other day but the guy said he really didn’t know too much and even if he did he said he wouldn’t be able to share. I’m looking to buy a LM for this upcoming season and I’m between MLM2Pro and R10. But I’m very curious as to when this may come out because that may make me hold off on buying anything until this is released. Thanks!
