Pretty excited to make the last big upgrade to the simulator shop, and that is installing turf across all but the workout area.

I opted to go with the Nylon 36 turf from Turf Factory Direct with the padding. I put this down on concrete directly. I say I in the sense that I got my buddy who has a flooring business to have his guys do it and I pay for it.

Here’s what it looks like freshly installed.

Nylon 36 from Turf Factory Direct. It is a perfect match to the FB hitting mat. (I have a sneaking suspicion it is the exact same material)

The first 7 months of the simulator’s life we used a low pile rug to save money. It functioned just fine, altho the space deserved the treatment.

Here is the before

Before the turf was installed the low pile rug laid directly on the concrete floor and the FB hitting mat was on top of the rug.

The Turf Arrives – Way Bigger and Heavier than I Expected

Massive – two 15′ long rolls. One of 23′ and one of 18′ of turf and heavy
Huge thanks to my business partner for dragging these beasts into the garage while I was on vacay with the family!

The install is scheduled for July 3. Just in time to enjoy the simulator for the holiday weekend.

I’m a believer in letting a man do his job, so this was a task that I was not best suited for doing in any quality capacity. I am much better at writing about it and sharing it with you guys so… this was outsourced. If you are handy I would be willing to bet you could pull this off. I would have screwed it up.

The turf runs all the way behind the screen to the garage door (that is sealed shut). For reference there is about 2 feet of space behind the screen and the back wall. Just enough room to get behind the screen if needed.
I need to figure out a better solution for those moving blankets I have hung on the wall but the turf looks amazing.
I believe it is about 5/8th inches tall (the bottom gray part of the white layer is the bottom of the turf, it’s sitting up just a bit in this photo.
The leaderboard wall and the Mini-split. It gets HOT in Georgia in the summer so we insulated and added this beefy AC unit. Plus our leaderboards.
The before. Hitting mat sitting on low pile carpet and then on concrete.
The after – wall to wall turf with hitting mat on top. I have a suspicion that the turf is the same exact stuff used in the FB hitting mat – It matches it perfectly. I bought the Nylon 36 with padding from TFD.
Take a quick tour of the sim room.

I’m in the process of reviewing the parts and pieces of building a home golf simulator like choosing your golf sim hitting insert or which overhead launch monitor is best. check out some of my other content.
